New England Fall Trip 2021
New England is the perfect destination for Fall foliage! This is Chan and I's second time back to the New England area and we might have had more gorgeous views this time around. That's crazy! Seeing as our trip in 2019 (linked here) was full of breathtaking views and awesome hiking. See the full (planned) itinerary below! Just for the record, the link shows our PERFECT trip to the New England area and we put everything in bold that we were able to do. This was all that we wanted to do before leaving. Unfortunately, we had some travel issues, UGH, and had to pivot. Luckily, Chan is the master trip planner and made everything workout :)
Below is a downloadable PDF of our itinerary!
Boston, MA
So, funny story. Kind of. Not really. Our original plan was to fly in to Boston and arrive around noon. Surprise, surprise, our flight was delayed and we found out once we arrived at the airport! We had to head back home and we were able to fly out at our original arrival time and arrived in Boston around 5 PM.
But, that wasn't going to stop us because Boston is a VIBE at night!
Lincoln, NH (Franconia Notch)
We drove to Lincoln after arriving in Boston and stayed at the cutest Tiny House AirBnB on a lake! This place was perfect for the two of us and very central to our hiking the next day. We woke up to otters swimming in the lake on a cool crisp morning surrounded by beautiful autumn leaves on the lake shore.
Then we got into our first (and only) hikes of the trip with the Flume Gorge Trail and Mount Pemigewasset Trail. And let me tell you, we thought we were in good shape, but there is something about the altitude us Floridians weren't ready for! We started with Flume Gorge Trail, an easy hike with some amazing views of mother nature. Once we finished that we crossed the street and took on the moderate rated (ummm, no way) Mount "Pemi" trailhead (Indian Trail to be the most specific). After a few breaks, and a few curse words, we made it to the most beautiful views of the entire trip.
Cannon Mountain Aerial Tramway
For a fun trip up a tramway for views of gorgeous ski slopes you've got to check out Cannon Mountain Aerial Tramway. They have a restaurant at the top along with hiking trails and a view down the ski slopes. This is a bucket list ski trip for us in the hopeful near future!
That evening we stayed at The Glen House directly in the shadows of Mount Washington.
Mount Washington
Phew, where to start on this one. Be prepared for 1) amazing views and 2) the scariest drive of your life. Seriously, this place is just beautiful, but Mount Washington is one of the most deadly mountains in the U.S. because of the sudden weather changes. Going into the drive knowing that, we were probably 95% of the way there and as we approached the peak very heavy fog started to roll in. Luckily, there are some breathtaking views on the way up the road so we decided we had seen what we needed to see. As the trending reel/tiktok says, "Immediately, no". The drive was not a waste though, check out these leaves!
"Kank" Highway
After (almost) driving up Mount Washington, the Kank Highway was the perfect next move! A beautiful, easy, simple, elegant drive down what is probably the prettiest road in New Hampshire. This is a "must-do" if you are in the area.
Before you get on the highway check out the Swift River and Saco River Covered Bridges. They are right next to each other!
Salem, MA
What's a trip to New England in the Fall without swinging by the spooky city of Salem? This was our second time to the eerie town and we were able to do a few things we hadn't had the chance to before. You guys know how I feel about Halloween (duh) and you know how I feel about Hocus Pocus (of course)! We swung by and saw Thackery Binx house in Pioneer Village, Dani and Max's house, and Alison's House. They are all pretty close together and it was so neat to see them in person (linked here)! Check out our Reel transitioning from the mountains to Salem here!
Back to Boston
Our final destination for the trip was back to where we started. We arrived in Boston and stayed at the Liberty Hotel. Guys, this hotel was an old jail! It was so cool to learn about the history behind the building and how it came to where it is now. Highly, highly recommend heading here if you need somewhere in Boston.
The restaurants/bars inside the hotel are inspired by the history of the building and are jail themed. They even have mugshots posted on the walls of many famous celebrities!
